The Original Joe’s Restaurant
The original Joe’s was opened over a hundred year’s ago and still remains a family operation
Thru the years…
Miami Beach has seen dramatic changes thru the year,s but Joe’s seems to be impervious to change. It’s open only 6 months a year — from October 15 – April 15 — during the Stone Crab harvest season.
Former Miami Beach Mayor Harold Rosen was a Joe’s regular…
A young lawyer up and coming lawyer at the time, Rosen was usually seated with owner Jesse Weiss, a good friend. He tells the story of a day in the 1950s when he, FBI Director J Edgar Hoover and columnist Walter Winchell were also seated at the table.
Jo Ann Bass
She grew up in the apartment over Joe’s and started working a full shift in the restaurant when she was 13. Grand-daughter of Joe Weiss, and daughter of Jesse, she still runs the place.
